Classes

I’m new to yoga - is this for me?

YES! We have classes for all levels. Go to the filter function at the top of the catalogue page and set it to beginner.

Where do I start?

If you are new to yoga then we recommend you begin with a slow flow class. Slow flow is basically a slowed down version of a vinyasa class with simpler poses - so good for the mind, bod and soul! If you are an experienced yogi then check in with your body and see what you need. Do a vinyasa to energise or a restore class to wind down.

I’m a beginner - will I be able to do the intermediate classes?

Yes! Most classes have different variations provided. Meaning we will be in a pose and the teacher will give you an option to make it stronger. Take the options if you feel like it. Often our mind/ego tells us to take the harder options - sometimes the “harder” thing to do is to keep it simple and listen to our body.

I want to advance my practice - how can I get stronger?

Number one, practice consistently! Use the ‘level’ filter to work your way up to intermediate and advanced flows. The Sculpt + Stretch and Drills classes will compliment your practice and help condition your body. Muscle memory and core activation will really help you and the way to do this… practice, practice, practice. Ps. Don’t over do it and then get injured because that will set you back more long term. Take your time, be patient with yourself and listen to your body every day.

I struggle to sit still while meditating, help!

This is SO normal! People say meditating is so easy… it’s not! Don’t expect it to be perfect. Keep showing up and you’ll slowly notice the difference in your mind. Even after practicing for years we have days where meditating feels easy and days where our thoughts are going crazy.

Why can’t I switch my brain off?

Don’t try and switch it off. Our brain doesn’t come with an on and off switch! Instead, allow your thoughts to float past you. They will still be there but we don’t need to attach to them so much. Imagine you’re a fly on the wall observing your thoughts. You don’t need to do anything with them. Let them be and notice what comes up.

I'm recovering from an injury. Are these classes suitable for me?

There will always be options for you! This largely depends on the nature of the injury. You may need to modify a few poses or switch your practice up. Skip any poses that don’t feel good and this could be a really good time to strengthen your meditation practice. Always get clearance from your GP/physio that it is safe to practice yoga. If you have questions about modifying yoga poses then make sure you email us so we can help!

Can I do these classes while pregnant?

There are so many benefits from practicing yoga during pregnancy. We highly recommend meditating regularly as this is so good for your nervous system and mental health. Never hold your breath and always sit comfortably on a chair or cushions. This is not a black and white question as all pregnancies are different. Firstly, make sure you get clearance from your medical professionals. If you have been practicing consistently and have a low risk pregnancy then the answer is generally yes. Go to our pre natal classes and press play. You may find towards the end of your pregnancy that even a gentle flow stops feeling as good. It can just start to feel really awkward. Honour your body and stop when you need to. Focusing on gentle, even breathing will always benefit you and your growing angel.

Can I do these classes post partum?

Head to our Mother + Child flows for gentle, healing practices that help you reconnect back to your body and bond with your baby. Your pregnancy and birth need to be taken into consideration as to when is the right time for you. You can do gentle breathing and meditations as soon as you like. We have a beautiful meditation you can do while cuddling or breastfeeding your babe. Ensure you have clearance from your medical professionals before beginning movement. It will be at least 6-12 weeks, depending on the details of your birth. Don’t rush to get back to strong practices as you are healing from birthing your angel. Your pelvic floor needs time to strengthen slowly. It is so important to get clearance from your GP/physio and to begin really slowly. You don’t need to bounce back. You are a new woman with a new body and your practice will evolve with you. Surrender to the magic.

Bolster - pillow(s), rolled up blanket or rolled up yoga mat. How can I create a zen atmosphere at home?

A few simple additions can make a huge difference to the energy of your house/practice space. Add any of the following; candles, incense, crystals, dim lamp, fairy lights, plants, relaxing music, Palo Santo, sage stick. Don’t overwhelm yourself. One little candle can set the mood and calm your nervous system.

What if it’s hard to create a studio-like atmosphere at home, at a worksite or on holidays?

It’s easy to not practice until the house is clean, the interior design is perfect and the environment is set up. But do you know what, life happens! You have 20 mins to spare. It’s either do a 20 min flow or spend 20 minutes cleaning. Roll out your mat and press play - your eyes will be closed a lot of the time. Focus on strengthening your internal energy first, chores can wait!

How can I play music with the classes?

I love practicing with a playlist in the background - it can really help set the mood! Classes that have a personalised playlist designed for the flow will have a link attached to the bottom of the class description.

If a class doesn’t have a playlist set for it then head here for so many class playlist options from a sweaty upbeat vinyasa to relaxing meditation music. Head to the 'TSE Online Playlists' folder. Find a playlist and turn the volume down to halfway on the Spotify app so you can still hear your teacher guiding you through your class. If watching a class via a phone or tablet you will need a second device to play the music on. All classes are designed to flow without music so choose whatever option feels best for you on the day.
